Born in Milan in 1918, he received a degree in architectural design in 1944.

As early as 1940, he worked with Livio (1911-1979) and Pier Giacomo (1913-1968) brothers to specialize in industrial production testing. After graduation, he began to study the appearance, technology and new materials for the overall design process.

In 1969, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, he served as a professor at the School of Architecture in Turin and taught industrial art design until 1980. Until 1993, he was a professor of industrial design in Milan.

Since 1950, he has been working in the field of exhibition decoration and display testing and research (Milan Center, Montecatini, Agip, Rai).

He was one of the founders of ADI (Italian Industrial Design Association) in 1956.

The New York Museum of Modern Art exhibited 14 of his works. His other works are housed in: Victoria & Albert Museum (London), Museum of Arts and Crafts (Zurich), National Museum of Applied Art (Munich), Design Museum (Prato), Uneleckoprumyslove Prague Museum (Jerusalem), Denver Art Museum, Terra Design Museum (Ville-Rhein), Museum of Applied Arts (Hamburg and Cologne)

Nine degrees won the Golden Circle Award.

From 1984 to 1986, the Museum of Applied Arts (Vienna) held his solo exhibition, followed by the School of Art (Berlin), the Milan Triennial, the Museum of Arts and Crafts (Zurich), the Hague City Museum, the Madrid Art Museum and the Paris Pompidou. Du Center held a solo exhibition.

Achille Castiglioni died in 2002.
