The 28th edition of the SPS Industrial Automation Exhibition, held in Nuremberg, Germany, once again highlighted the transformation of Industry 4.0 from a vision into a tangible reality. As one of Europe's leading events in electrical automation, this year’s exhibition expanded significantly, with an exhibition area of 130,000 square meters and over 1,600 global exhibitors showcasing their latest innovations. More than 70,000 professionals attended, making it the largest SPS event to date.
Since its debut in 1990, the Nuremberg SPS has evolved into a premier platform for automation technology. The growing scale of the event has drawn more industry leaders to present cutting-edge solutions, emphasizing innovation and smart integration across the automation landscape.
**International Brands Showcase Innovation**
Pilz focused on 2D and 3D safety sensor technologies, which are crucial for safe human-machine collaboration in future factories. These sensors must detect whether a person is within a dangerous zone or entering a high-risk area, ensuring dynamic safety in shared workspaces.
Siemens introduced a wearable smart sensor called SIMOTI CSIQ, designed for motor monitoring. This device connects to the MindSphere cloud platform via Wi-Fi, enabling real-time data analysis and predictive maintenance through the SIMOTI CSIQMindApp, enhancing machine performance and operational transparency.
Balluff demonstrated how intelligent systems can be connected using optical "nerves" that transmit data in real time, allowing users to better understand and manage machine operations. Their wireless BIC sensors offer non-contact signal transmission, reducing losses and improving efficiency.
Estun Automation displayed advanced motion control systems, including EtherCAT six-axis platforms and laser engraving demos. Their seventh-axis virtual axis function, combined with RTCP and high-speed motor solutions, attracted significant attention from engineers and industry experts.
**Domestic Brands Make an Impact**
Yike presented new absolute encoders, such as the EAC50, known for high-speed performance and BiSS-C protocol support. The PNM50 series offered cost-effective multi-turn encoding with precise angle feedback.
Delta showcased intelligent factory monitoring solutions, supporting EtherCAT and Ethernet/IP protocols. Their AH10EMC motion controller enables remote control of up to 32 axes, providing real-time data for smart manufacturing.
Infinity exhibited the TÜV-certified GD20-EU drive, featuring STO functionality and a built-in DC reactor. Their GD350 product supports CODESYS programming and closed-loop control, offering flexible and scalable industrial automation solutions.
From the exhibits, it’s clear that the focus has shifted from individual products to comprehensive solutions. Manufacturers are now offering integrated services, moving beyond simple device supply to full lifecycle support.
With the rise of Industry 4.0, the global manufacturing sector is evolving rapidly. Companies are embracing smart technologies to unlock new efficiencies and possibilities, shaping the future of industrial automation.
