Japanese government encourages IT entrepreneurship to support up to 10 million yen

[Global Technology Reporter Wang Huan] According to a report from the Japanese Kyodo News Agency on March 22, the Japanese government will expand its entrepreneurial support policy for individuals with original technology in the IT field. Currently, there is a development fund of up to approximately 2.3 million yen (approximately RMB 140,000) for potential IT talents, but a new system to provide a maximum of 10 million yen in grants will be implemented in 2017. This move aims to nurture global innovation companies that use IT to change the world.

The "Information Processing Promotion Agency" (IPA), an independent administrative agency affiliated with Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, will set up a new "embryonic" subject that emphasizes entrepreneurship for "new businesses" that support outstanding young IT professionals. It is characterized by strong support for technical personnel who are considered to be weak, and the assistance ceiling has also been greatly increased. The first year plans to implement several projects.

The first phase of the project began from noon on the 22nd. IT has entered a period of global change. Around the AI (artificial intelligence), IoT (Internet of Things), robotics and other fields, the development of various countries is fierce. Many of the leading companies are innovative companies with creativity and vitality. Japan is also in urgent need of supporting similar companies.

IPA's new business began in 2000 and has supported more than 1,600 people so far. Including the case of Fukushima Shinjuku, which created the news software company "Gunosy", there are still many people who continue to conduct research at universities or choose to work in large companies. In order to accelerate entrepreneurship, the government believes that it is necessary to vigorously promote the business mechanism.

Individuals or groups can apply. The current new business is accompanied by the condition of being under the age of 25, but this new system has no age limit. Experts, etc. will conduct a review and determine the support project by July. Funding for software development will be provided from late July to February next year. People who have started business will become the exclusive “Project Manager (PM)” to guide them.

If successful, the Japanese government intends to expand the scale from 2018.
