Texas Instruments Introduces Industry's Most Flexible Tactile and Capacitive Touch Combination Solutions

Enhanced Human Machine Interface (HMI) experience to meet the needs of gaming, mobile and computer accessories, as well as industrial control panels and consumer electronics

Beijing, December 11, 2013 - Texas Instruments (TI) announced the industry's most flexible single-chip tactile and capacitive touch combination solution to further expand its rich capacitive touch solution portfolio. The latest MSP430TCH5E is a haptic-enabled microcontroller that allows users to use all capacitive touch buttons, sliders and scroll wheels for mobile computing and gaming devices, smart TV remotes, camcorders, printers, industrial control panels, point-of-sale terminals and toys. Add vibration feedback. The MSP430TCH5E MCU offers the Immersion TouchSense® 2200 software license to help developers easily add and adjust 122 different haptic effects, including effects chain and audio-to-tactile features. TI has worked closely with Immersion to provide industry-leading haptic technology as a target code that can be integrated with other applications such as capacitive touch.

The latest MSP430TCH5E MCUs can be further configured with TI's open source MSP430TM capacitive touch software library. In addition, developers can use the latest PC-based MSP430 capacitive touch Pro graphical user interface (GUI) tools to evaluate, diagnose, and adjust capacitive touch buttons, sliders, and wheel designs in real time. It provides users with configurable ranging, recording and printing options.

To help developers quickly add haptic functionality to their designs, Element14 also created the HapTouchTM BoosterPack that integrates the MSP430TCH5E haptic MCU with the TI DRV2603 haptic driver in a common game controller package. The latest BoosterPack plugs into the TI MSP430 Value Line LaunchPad evaluation kit to demonstrate the simplicity of a capacitive touch button configured to provide audio-to-tact feedback. The new BoosterPack is ideal for a wide range of professional engineering, amateur and university projects and can be ordered immediately through Element14. In addition, we offer a comprehensive programmable software development kit (SDK).
