Specific to the manufacturers, Lenovo ranked first with 18.1% share in the fourth quarter of last year, shipments increased by 6.6% year-on-year; HP ranked second in the 16.4%, but shipments fell 7.2% year-on-year The third-ranked Dell share was 11.8%, and shipments increased by 6.2% year-on-year.

Acer and ASUS ranked fourth and fifth, and both shipments showed double-digit year-on-year declines of 16% and 19% respectively.

Gartner said that in addition to the Asia Pacific market, Lenovo has seen strong growth in other markets. And HP has had trouble in the US and Latin American markets. Dell, which continues to maintain its third position, refocuses on PC and equipment businesses after completing privatization transactions. In addition to the professional PC field, Dell will also focus on the consumer PC sector, especially in emerging markets.

As for Acer and Asus, Gartner believes that although PC is still a strategic product of the two companies, share acquisition is not their priority. Acer has a strong position in the Chromebook field, and ASUS has a good performance in the tablet field.

As far as the US market is concerned, HP ranked first with a 26.5% share in the fourth quarter of last year, but shipments plummeted 10.3% year-on-year. Apple ranked third with a 13.7% share, and shipments surged 28.5% year-on-year.

In the fourth quarter of last year, total PC shipments in the US market were 15.8 million units, down 7.5% year-on-year. In the Asia-Pacific market, shipments were 26.5 million units, down 9.8% year-on-year. Consumers in the region have not chosen PCs as a priority device, but have chosen lower-key devices such as smartphones and tablets.

Looking at the whole year of 2013, total PC shipments were 316 million units, a sharp drop of 10% year-on-year. This also set the biggest annual decline in PC history. Shipments have fallen to 2009 levels.

Lenovo is the only company among the top five companies to achieve year-on-year growth (2.1%). In 2013, its market share reached 16.9%, ranking first. The second-largest HP share was 16.2%, and shipments fell 9.3% year-on-year.
