November global chip sales 26 billion US dollars

According to data provided by the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA), global chip sales reached 26 billion U.S. dollars in November last year, a slight decrease of 0.9% from October, but an increase of 14.4% from November 2009 sales of 22.7 billion.

As of the end of November, chip sales increased 34% from $202.8 billion in the same period in 2009 to $271.8 billion.

SIA President Brian Toohey stated in a statement: “Although the macroeconomic environment is still uncertain, the semiconductor industry has reached a 10-year annual growth rate. The application of advanced technologies will continue semiconductors to a wider range of areas. The expansion, which includes multimedia tablets, smart phones, e-books, and automobiles, has contributed to a surge in chip sales in 2010."

In a report released in August 2010, SIA and iSuppli predicted that chip sales will increase sharply in 2010 as companies have emerged from the economic downturn in 2009.

Tuihe said: "By the strong demand from a wide range of end markets around the world, chip sales in 2010 will set a new record. With the recovery of the economy and the recovery of consumer confidence, it is expected that chip sales will increase moderately in the next two years."
