First Yingxi Power Generation after Yingxiu Tatsu Power Station Earthquake

“Yao Xiu Ying Xiu Wan, Chengdu Liang Half”, there is a saying in Wenchuan Yingxiu to describe Sichuan Yingxiu Bay Water Power Generating Plant (hereinafter referred to as Yingdian General Factory). At 11 am on the 24th, Wenchuan Power Station Unit 3 was repaired and successfully connected to the grid for power generation. This is the first unit connected to the grid after the "May 12" Wenchuan earthquake. It was also the first unit of the Yingdian Power Plant that succeeded in grid-connected power generation after the “8·13” catastrophic debris flow disaster last year.

Yingxiu Power Plant is located in Wenchuan County, 36 kilometers away from Dujiangyan City. It has jurisdiction over 3 Yingxiuwan, Yuzixi and Yuda hydropower stations. It has a total of 11 units with a total installed capacity of 455,000 kilowatts and an average annual generating capacity of more than 2 billion kwh. In the 1970s, the power plant was one of the most important power sources in Chengdu.

The “5.12” mega earthquake that occurred in 2008 has brought disaster to the power plant. After the earthquake, it was fully repaired. By August last year, a total of 5 units of the Yingxiuwan and Yuzixi Power Stations began to generate electricity. On August 13, Yingxiu suddenly fell heavy rain, millions of mudslides poured into the Lancang River, resulting in blocking of the river and diversion of the Minjiang River. Surging floodwaters were pumped from the tailwaters and traffic tunnels of Yingxiuwan, Yuzixi and Tingda power stations, respectively, and the three-station plant was flooded.

After October 20 last year, electrical workers again entered silt-laden factories and repaired them. After nearly 180 days of repair work, the 40000-kV Unit 3 of the Tatda Power Station succeeded in grid-connected power generation yesterday.

According to Tian Ronghai, deputy chief engineer of Yingdang Electric Power Plant, it is expected that at the end of the year, the 6 units of Yingduo Power Plant will complete repairs and power generation on the grid.
