ROHM "Sensor Strategy": Complete Software Solutions

In current motion sensor products, the existence of software is indispensable. In particular, software that supports motion sensors for mobile terminals has become more important and complex than ever. Today's smartphones, tablets, laptops and other terminals not only have built-in accelerometers and gyroscopes, but also built-in geomagnetic sensors (digital compass), proximity sensors, illuminance sensors, and even pressure sensors and GPS. For example, in Microsoft's Windows 8, configuring these sensors is no longer an option, but a mandatory option. Thanks to the built-in multiple sensors, advanced software management is required at the terminal. This complex auxiliary system is called “sensor fusion”.

"Sensor fusion" is not limited to just collating information and signals from multiple sensors. That is to say, each sensor element that is configured needs to be able to process the data and automatically correct it so that the system as a whole can perform optimally better than the single operation. In addition, it is very important to reduce power consumption as much as possible without sacrificing performance. Therefore, sensor fusion software is required to have the function of optimizing the power consumption of each sensor. This is the excellence of the sensor fusion software provided by ROHM's Kionix company.

Kionix has long been known for its built-in algorithmic product and application support capabilities. Since two years ago, Kionix has been supported by the parent company, Roma, to improve software solutions. Now, the New York headquarters has expanded its software development team, and in Silicon Valley has also set up a development team with experienced engineers.

Kionix receives Windows 8 certification

Through these efforts, Kionix has recently obtained Windows 8 certification. From now on, Kionix not only expands its existing product lineup, but also provides Windows 8 certified sensor fusion software and is positioned as the most important partner for Windows 8. This certified product is not only compatible with 32bit and 64bit products of Windows8, but also compatible with 32bit and 64bit products of Windows7.

Kionix's sensor fusion software is recognized as a HUB processor solution that works on microcontrollers. This sensor fusion technology not only supports 9-axis platforms including accelerometers, gyroscopes, geomagnetic sensors, but also the very important auto-correction functions required to integrate three different sensors on one system.

This HUB processor solution is just a small part of the new sensor fusion technology offered by Kionix. The software solution is scalable and can be used in a wide range of products, for example, in a relatively simple RTOS (Real Time Operating System) called "Action Awareness".

New accelerometer with user programmable state machine

Since many years ago, Kionix has been providing customers with built-in algorithmic accelerometers for vertical and horizontal perception, rotational sensing, touch-screen functionality, drop perception, and other specific functions required on mobile devices. This time, Kionix has introduced an innovative new product that combines flexibility and functionality with a built-in algorithm.

Accelerometer new product "KXCNL"

The new KXCNL has a built-in dual state machine (user programmable). The product can be combined with many more complex applications such as free fall sensing, step counting, click/double click function, power management function, etc., which are based on basic aspect perception. In addition, several applications can be switched directly (temporarily transferred to the background), thus giving designers a new experience in flexibility and scalability. To help customers better adapt to this new flexibility, Kionix allows customers to select between the target program in the library and the built-in memory. Products that are not written to the target program can be written and used by the customer.

The dual-state machine of the new product is at the chip level and can run multiple applications at the same time. Therefore, the processing load of the main processor of the system can be greatly reduced, and at the same time, it is very beneficial for energy saving.

Software is still the key to final product development

Kionix's sensor fusion software and the new accelerometer KXCNL are arguably a good example of the technological innovation that motion sensor suppliers have built up to meet their customers' needs. In the future, many of the sensors deployed in electrification products are becoming more and more complicated, and it is no longer realistic to rely solely on hardware to meet all the functions required by the mobile terminal market.

KXCNL state machine example

Kionix's sensor fusion software provides designers with unparalleled flexibility, scalability and power management capabilities for high value-added, motion sensor-enabled product development. On the other hand, KXCNL is one of the components of the sensor system as a whole, and it is a product with high functionality and power management performance. For many years, Kionix has been providing customers with high-quality built-in algorithm products and application support, and we are convinced that the new products will receive further acclaim from our customers.

Kionix provides customers with the most efficient and sophisticated software solutions available in the market today through highly flexible sensor fusion software and state-of-the-art accelerometers to help customers develop highly functional end products.

In the future: ROHM will be determined to become a comprehensive solution provider for sensors

As one of ROHM's four development strategies, “Sensor Strategy” will fully integrate its Kionix company's high-tech sensors, cater to the diversified needs of the market, and combine the control of microcontroller technology from sensor information. The market creates more comprehensive solutions.

Mobile Mini Fan, too small to put it in your pocket, you can take it anywhere. When you feel hot, just take it out and cool at once, portable enough. And it is very quiet. You don't need to worry that the noise may disturb working or studying, or may influence other people's rest.

Little technology brings much more convenience, even outside, just need a USB port, you can enjoy the cool breeze. You can also use this Portable Fan to cool your phone, computer and so on. Made by ABS and soft TPE, even you touch the fan blade carelessly when it runs, you won't get any hurt.
