Freescale, DENSO and TRW form alliance to promote DSI standard
DENSO, Freescale Semiconductor and TRW Automotive Holdings have jointly announced that they will form an industry alliance to further promote the development and use of distributed systems interface (Distributed Systems InteRFace, DSI) standards.
DSI is the most widely adopted bus standard in the automotive industry and is used to connect the main airbag electronic control unit (ECU) and remote sensors in the vehicle body. The alliance will also actively seek more players to participate in order to improve the capacity of the bus system, and at the same time extend the scope of application to areas outside the automobile, such as industrial control and networking. Alliance members are free to use the DSI standard, and they can also beg for future research and development of the new generation DSI standard.
Mitsuhiko Masegi, director of information and security systems business at DENSO, said: "After the establishment of this alliance, we hope to accelerate the development of updated DSI standards, improve performance and reduce costs, and help expand the market share of DSI standards."
In a statement, the DSI Alliance announced DSI 2.5, the next-generation standard. The alliance is also committed to developing the DSI 3.0 standard. This new standard will improve bus performance, such as electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) signals and transmission rates.
The DSI protocol has been adopted by major global SRS airbag manufacturers. There are currently more than 12 auto foundries that have incorporated DSI systems into their vehicles. Products that follow DSI have been produced for many years. Relevant regulations, consumer influence, and the growing demand for automobiles in emerging markets have all contributed to external demands for airbag-related systems.
Tom Deitrich, senior vice president and general manager of Freescale's RF, analog and sensor business group, pointed out: "As car airbag systems become more and more complex, more collision detection sensors are needed. When car manufacturers improve safety, It is also necessary to face the cost pressure of reducing costs. The establishment of this alliance will allow the actual authors of the DSI safety bus to participate in the formulation of standards, and will continue to provide a stable and rapid communication method for the increasing number of collision sensors in new models in the future. . "
