Design considerations for short-range wireless data transmission protocols

This article discusses the issues that need to be considered in the process of designing the protocol from the aspects of spread spectrum technology, spectrum management, protocol layer design, error handling, and link range.

The bit error rate is several orders of magnitude higher than conventional cable systems. Due to the above differences, the reliability of the RF link is lower than that of the wired link. In order to establish a reliable wireless communication link, TDMA and FDMA technologies can be used.

All transceivers usually have a serial data interface. Simple devices do not provide a clock, so the microcontroller must deal with timing issues. More complex devices can provide clock regeneration, so the data interface is similar to any other synchronous serial interface of a microcontroller. The data format is also different; some transceivers need to support Manchester-encoded (self-synchronizing codes with a constant DC level and always maintaining at least one conversion per bit), while some other transceivers have non-zero reception standards (NRZ) format data.

3. Max. short-circuit temperature of the conductor shall not exceed:

PVC insulated aerial cables:160℃;

PE insulated aerial cables:130℃;

XLPE insulated aerial cables:250℃.

4. The installation ambient temperature should not below -20℃.

5. The bending radiuses of cables are recommended as follows:

When the diameter of cables less than 25mm: not less than 4 times the diameter of cables;

When the diameter of cables not less than 25mm: not less than 6 times the diameter of cables.

6. When the cables use in alternating current system, rated voltage of cables should be at least equal the rated voltage of the system;

When the cables use in direct current system, rated voltage should be not greater than 1.5 times of the rated voltage of the cables.
