RS Components is now shipping the IoT SmartEverything development board

Beijing, China, January 6, 2016 - RS Components (RS), a trading brand of Electrocomponents plc (LSE: ECM) Group, a distributor of global engineers, announced the launch of Arrow Electronics' SmartEverything Internet of Things (IoT) development kit. The new SmartEverything "Fox" board is an IoT systemized module that looks like Arduino, comes with a variety of bundled factory I/O ports and sensors, and high-performance wireless connectivity.

An important part of the SmartEverything system board is the Atmel D21 ultra-low-power microprogram controller, the 32-bit ARM® Cortex®-M0+ processor, and the SIGFOX communication module for connecting the Internet of Things. The SIGFOX standard is a wide-ranging and energy-efficient technology that utilizes ultra-narrowband (UNB) radio technology with data transmission speeds of 10 to 1000 bits per second. But, more importantly, it consumes very little power, typically consuming 50μW, while cellular communication requires 5000μW, which means it can significantly extend the battery life of mobile or portable IoT devices.

The SIGFOX connection is powered by the Telit LE51-868S high-performance module, which is a certified SIGFPOX gateway covering the 863-870MHz unlicensed ISM band. The SIGFOX network protocol stack and the Telit proprietary star network protocol are preloaded. In addition, Telit cloud management software also supports easy connection to the cloud.

The SmartEverything board also includes an Atmel cryptographic verification chipset, a 868MHz antenna, and a GPS module with an antenna embedded for positioning applications. It supports GPS, QZSS and GLONASS standards as well as Galileo positioning systems. It is also equipped with proximity sensors and ambient light sensors for humidity measurement. And temperature capacitive digital sensors, nine-axis 3D accelerometers, 3D gyroscopes and 3D magnetometer composite sensors, MEMS pressure sensors, and NTAG I2C NFC (Near Field Communication) modules and Bluetooth low energy (BLE) transceiver modules.

The SmartEverything printed circuit board measures only 68.8mm x 53.3mm, and the USB interface and power socket as well as the antenna extend out of the board. The board has three power modes: two AA 1.5V batteries (1.4V to 3.2V); a 5 to 45V external power supply; or a 5V mini USB interface. To enable rapid and easy software development, the SmartEverything Fox board supports the Arduino IDE and Atmel Studio IDE (Integrated Development Environment).
