So much bigger and bigger mobile phone - millet MAX 2 out of the box

Foreword Regarding the Xiaomi MAX 2 phone, it's evident from the feedback of value-conscious users in related news and forums that the overall evaluation isn't particularly high. Many complain about the price being too steep and point out some configuration issues. Personally, I concur with these opinions. Not to mention, for 1699 yuan, the Lenovo Z2 Pro offers the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor with a 6GB RAM and 128GB storage. Why would someone opt for the MAX 2? Well, this purchase wasn’t for myself—it was for my aunt. She initially mentioned wanting the “Chrysanthemum Factory” Imagination 7 PLUS, asking where she could buy it and whether it was a good choice. I immediately advised her: “If you're buying a phone, nothing beats Huawei. Xiaomi, Meizu, and Lenovo are okay, and if you don’t mind the advertisements, 360 can also work.” My aunt dismissed “360, Lenovo, and Meizu” outright, leaving only Xiaomi as an option. Considering her primary needs—making calls, watching videos, and not gaming—the large screen and massive battery of the Xiaomi MAX 2 perfectly fit her requirements. Thus, it was a done deal. Additionally, I noticed that many of the older folks around me seem to have a soft spot for Huawei. Even my mom-in-law once visited a Huawei Experience Store and wanted to buy the Nova series. What attracts them? Mobile phone purchased from JD.com. My aunt made sure to post a link: Millet MAX2 Full Netcom 4GB+64GB Gold Mobile Unicom Telecom 4G Phone Dual SIM Dual Standby 1699 Yuan on JD.com Appearance Show The packaging box is rather old-fashioned, but my box was excessively padded, making it awkward to open. The cover kept falling off, while the other side got stuck. These were minor issues, though I’m not sure if they’re common. Accessories include the phone, charging cable, charger, manual, and SIM card ejector. Though I knew the phone was large, I hadn’t quite grasped the size until I received it. It’s a truly massive device. When compared to regular-sized phones, one-handed operation seems like a distant dream. The top of the phone retains the 3.5mm headphone jack, a benefit shared even by lower-end models, allowing for continued use of older headphones. The bottom has a symmetrical design with a speaker and microphone, and the charging port is a Type-C interface. A closer look reveals that the front design is quite decent in my opinion. However, the back panel is another story—it’s unattractive. I find it ugly primarily due to the local gold color, which I’ve never liked since its inception. Unfortunately, there’s no option for basic black or white, which are usually more expensive. I hope the Tyrant Gold model sells out soon. The camera uses the Sony IMX386 sensor, the same as the Mi flagship Mi6. While the dual-camera setup of the MAX 2 may not match the Mi6 in terms of imaging quality, the hardware is still solid, ensuring adequate performance for regular photography. The phone includes a standard QC3.0 fast-charging adapter, which is expected at this price range. System Usage The latest MIUI 8.5 running on the MAX 2 consumes a total of 11+GB of memory. The system pre-installs 11 apps and services, some of which are unnecessary, like the “Live” app, which I promptly deleted after setting it up. The bezels on the screen aren’t as slim as those on the 5S, and domestically, Xiaomi still has room to improve compared to ZTE in this regard. Dual-app functionality is already common, but the MAX 2 supports multiple dual-applications, despite some apps not supporting dual-launch. Screen Quality The screen of the MAX 2 has more vibrant colors than the iPhone 6, providing a more engaging visual experience. Battery Life Although the MAX 2 features a 6.44-inch screen, its 5300mAh battery is impressive, nearly doubling the capacity of typical smartphone batteries. Paired with the energy-efficient Snapdragon 625 processor, it’s expected to outperform the MAX 1 in terms of battery life. In testing, watching videos for 20 minutes dropped the battery from 59% to 57%, consuming 2% of the charge. Playing a popular MOBA game for 44 minutes (from 22:35 to 23:19) resulted in a 10% drop in battery, from 57% to 47%. The frame rate remained stable between 27-30, with no lag or freezing. Despite the 625 processor not being particularly powerful, it handles modern mobile games without issue. From 23:19 to 7:10 the next morning, the standby time was 7 hours and 50 minutes, with a 2% drop in battery from 47% to 45%. Overall, while the 5300mAh battery is impressive, the power consumption of the 6.44-inch screen is commendable. During gaming, the 44-minute battery drop of 10% is reasonable. With moderate usage, two-day charging cycles shouldn’t be a problem. As for charging, I neglected to capture a screenshot, but it took 2 hours and 18 minutes to charge from 1% to 100%. Given the battery capacity, I’d say it’s acceptable. Conclusion At 1699 yuan, if we solely consider the configuration, the Xiaomi MAX 2 isn’t the best option. Combined with its use of the Snapdragon 625 processor, which hasn’t improved much, it has become a major sticking point for many netizens. However, on the flip side, the large 6.44-inch screen, the energy efficiency of the 625, and the massive 5300mAh battery make it an excellent choice for non-gamers who simply need a phone for calling, messaging, and video watching. For elderly users who frequently forget to charge their phones, this is a great option. P.S. I’ve been searching for a split-screen mode for a long time, only to discover at the end that it wasn’t updated yet. That’s a bit premature.
