Samsung Electronics has made history by installing the world's first commercial Cinema LED screen at Takuten Cinema in South Korea. This cutting-edge display is an HDR LED cinema screen designed to offer an immersive movie-watching experience. Collaborating with Samsung Audio Lab and HARMAN Professional Solutions, the screen boasts advanced picture quality and realistic audio technologies, making the viewing experience truly exceptional.

HS Kim, President of Samsung’s Video Display Division, shared his excitement about this innovation: "With clearer images, more vibrant colors, enhanced audio, and superior display quality, our Cinema LED screen offers a superior cinematic experience. We’re thrilled to partner with Lotte Cinema to introduce this technology to audiences worldwide, hoping it will transform the film industry."
The Cinema LED Screen measures approximately 10.3 meters (33.8 feet) wide and 5.4 meters tall, and it can be customized to fit various theater environments. It features a resolution of 4096x2160 (ultra-clear 4K) and a peak brightness of 146fL, surpassing traditional projector technology by tenfold. The display consists of 96 LED zones, allowing for precise adjustments to ensure optimal performance and image quality.
This state-of-the-art screen was installed in the Super S Hall at Lotte Cinema within the Lotte World Tower in Seoul. Unlike conventional screens, the Cinema LED Screen maintains sharpness and clarity even in extremely bright or dim settings, offering unmatched contrast ratios and vibrant color reproduction.
Leveraging Samsung’s expertise and Harman JBL’s advanced audio solutions, the Super S Hall integrates powerful speakers and proprietary processing technology. The JBL Sculpted Surround system, placed around the screen, delivers unparalleled sound quality, ensuring that viewers experience the cinema as if they were part of the film itself.
Lotte Cinema's CEO, Wonchun Cha, expressed enthusiasm about this technological leap: "Super theaters represent a new era in cinema. By teaming up with Samsung, we aim to elevate the movie-watching experience, enhance customer satisfaction, and bring innovative content to our audiences."
Prior to its commercial debut, the Cinema LED Screen underwent extensive testing, proving its capability to meet the stringent standards set by the DCI Theater Technology Certification. In May 2017, it became the first digital cinema to achieve this certification. Starting from the 14th, the theater will showcase movies like "Cars 3" and "Spider-Man 3: Far From Home," marking a significant milestone in the evolution of cinematic technology.
This advancement not only revolutionizes the way films are presented but also opens new possibilities for theaters, allowing them to host a variety of events beyond just screenings. Whether it’s corporate meetings, concerts, sports broadcasts, or gaming tournaments, the Samsung Cinema LED Screen provides the flexibility and versatility needed for modern entertainment venues.
