Recently, the maintenance management center of Guizhou Power Grid Inspection and Inspection Company successfully implemented a drone-based approach to conduct the "four-seeing triple-view" ice inspection on the 500-kV Fuqing line G058. This initiative marked a significant step toward achieving full coverage of artificial ice-viewing points within the center.

The "four sees" involve observing the type of ice coating, measuring the short diameter, checking the change in the sag, and assessing the condition of the equipment. The "triple focus" includes analyzing the ice-covered ratio, tracking weather trends, and evaluating special terrain features.

Using drones allows for close-up monitoring of ice on transmission lines, especially on the conductor and ground wire. It enables accurate identification of ice types and densities, precise measurement of ice length and diameter, and detailed observation of changes in sag. Additionally, it helps verify whether the electrical clearance between the wire and the overhead ground wire meets safety standards after ice accumulation. It also checks if the cross-over clearance between the wire and ground wire is sufficient and identifies potential issues such as tilted insulator strings, damaged clamps or spacers, and slippage of the ground wire. Drones can effectively address challenges like blind spots caused by high towers or difficult-to-reach areas where manual inspections are impractical.

According to on-site personnel, one of the most critical tasks during ice monitoring is calculating the ice-covered ratio based on field data. This is combined with weather forecasts and local terrain conditions to decide whether to initiate ice melting. If the ice-covered ratio reaches 0.5 or higher, immediate action is taken. For ratios between 0.3 and 0.5, the decision is made based on factors like expected continuous ice days, micro-topography, ice growth trends, and their impact on the equipment. If any risk is identified, the ice melting process is initiated.

It is reported that the company has fully integrated drones into its ice monitoring operations. Compared to traditional manual methods, drone-based inspections have significantly improved efficiency—sometimes by several times, especially in challenging terrains. This advancement not only enhances the accuracy of ice monitoring but also ensures the safe and stable operation of the power grid.
