According to insiders, the Chinese battery manufacturer working with Apple is Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited (CATL). CATL is one of China’s leading battery producers, rivaling companies like BYD and Lishen. Notably, CATL was spun off from ATL, which is Apple’s largest battery supplier. This partnership could signal a strategic move by Apple to secure key components for future automotive projects. In April of this year, the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) added Apple to its list of companies authorized to conduct autonomous vehicle testing in the state. The update confirmed that Apple is quietly advancing its self-driving technology. Despite sending a letter to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) in 2016, Apple has remained largely silent on its autonomous vehicle initiatives and has not officially commented on related rumors. This collaboration with CATL highlights Apple’s growing interest in the automotive sector, particularly in power systems and smart mobility.
