NXP Semiconductors NXP SemicONductors N. V. Recently announced that the TDA18260, a cable dual-channel silicon tuner solution, has entered volume production and will be immediately available. The TDA18260 simplifies the design of high-definition dual cable STBs. Each video stream supports up to 6 channels of programming. NXP's dual-channel CATV tuner eliminates interference between tuners and eliminates the need for complex and costly low-noise amplifiers, crossovers, SAW filters and other RF components and an ever-increasing number of crystals.
With the ever-increasing demand for viewing, recording, video-on-demand, and high-speed Internet services, the number of tuner-integrated tuners has increased. The emergence of the TDA18260 has benefited cable TV operators by reducing the overall cost, size and power consumption of a multi-function set-top box or gateway. The TDA18260 also supports multi-streaming processing required for high-definition 3D TVs. NXP exhibited the latest TDA 18260 and TDA18263 solutions at the 2011 CES (International Consumer Electronics Show).
Luca Lo Coco, general manager of NXP’s front-end cable product line for semiconductor TVs, stated that “cable cable operators and cable television multi-system operators (MSOs) are leveraging existing infrastructure to provide rich broadcast, data and voice services for set-top boxes. More requirements were put forward.The TDA18260 greatly simplifies the design of cable set-top boxes and reduces costs without sacrificing performance.To meet the demand for cable TV operators in North America, China, Europe and Latin America with high performance requirements, We specifically designed the TDA18260 to ensure the performance of each channel even in the event of poor signal reception."
