IMS Research has updated the global monthly retail price tracking report for LED lamps. The tracking range covers 12 countries, 27 retailers and more than 480 LED lamps.
According to the latest analysis by IMS Research, the average retail price of global LED lamps has steadily declined, from US$30 in September to US$28 in November.
• China – China LED market prices fell the most, with average prices falling by 62% from $30 to $11. The price of the A19 60W replacement lamp fell by 38%, while the price of the MR 16 20W replacement lamp fell by 52%.
Chinese manufacturers seem to have been working hard to increase the luminous efficiency of light bulbs. From September to November, luminous efficiency (lumens/watt) increased by 24%.
• United States - November is the first month that Samsung LED lights are sold at Lowe's. Samsung currently has 7 new PAR lamps and MR replacement lamps and a 50W incandescent replacement lamp. Samsung seems to be delaying the launch of other incandescent alternative lamps that have been marketed in other countries.
• Japan – In November, a 40W incandescent replacement lamp was first sold for less than 1,000 yen ($13). The average price of the LED replacement lamp for the Japanese 40W incandescent lamp is still higher than 30 US dollars.
• Among the 31 incandescent replacement lamps in South Korea - tracked by IMS Research, there are 26 LED lamps with incorrect wattages attached to the wrong label. The label indicates that the average luminous flux of LED lamps with an alternative wattage of 60W is 505 lumens, which is nearly 200 lumens lower than the standard set by IMS Research for the 60W replacement lamp.
• Worldwide - Of the 480 LED lamps in 12 countries worldwide tracked by IMS Research, only 32 (7%) are 60W and 75W replacement lamps, and there is no 100W replacement lamp.
