Since 2017, the development of artificial intelligence speakers has taken off rapidly. Devices like Amazon Echo and Apple HomePod have captured people's attention. As a leading player in the HD industry, Shenzhen Haimeidi Technology Co., Ltd. has embraced the AI trend and launched the Haimeidi Audio-Visual Robot. This innovative product combines a camera, speaker, and set-top box into one device, offering video calls, home care, 4K ultra-high-definition playback, smart speaker functions, and control over home appliances. It is the first of its kind in the country. I was fortunate enough to get my hands on this new intelligent audio-visual robot, and today I’ll take you through my experience.
The packaging of the Haimeidi Audio-Visual Robot comes in a sleek black hard paper gift box with a color-changing hot-stamped "Audio-Visual Robot" logo on the front. Inside, there’s a full-color poster that highlights the features of the device, such as supporting TV video calls, playing Tencent’s vast video content, and setting alarms, weather updates, and answering general knowledge questions. The host and accessories are neatly arranged in layers. The upper layer contains a dual modular small paper box, while the lower layer holds the main unit wrapped in special plastic foam for protection.
From a design perspective, the Haimeidi Audio-Visual Robot breaks away from the traditional set-top box shape, adopting a more modern cylindrical design that looks great in any living room. At the top, there's an oval-shaped baffle with a halved logo, and on either side, it features Synaptics' classic dual-microphone array. According to tests, it can pick up voice commands within a 5-meter radius, allowing users to interact naturally without being restricted by their position.
On the front panel, there's a strip of plastic designed with four touch keys: call/end, MIC/mute, volume up, and volume down. What’s interesting is the breathing LED ring beneath the Harman/Kardon logo. When the volume increases, the brightness changes accordingly, making it easy to see when the device is powered on. The Harman/Kardon brand logo is clearly visible near the base, highlighting the premium audio quality of the device.
The main body of the robot is a high-quality speaker covered in a soft cotton mesh. It has passed Harman Kardon’s sound certification, with five custom-tuned speaker units designed by their professional acoustic team. This makes it stand out in terms of audio performance, with the largest speaker size and strongest bass in its category.
At the bottom, there are various interfaces including USB 3.0, fiber optic, and HDMI ports, ensuring compatibility with most home entertainment needs. The included remote control is a 14-key Bluetooth/infrared/voice remote, featuring two customizable buttons for simulating multiple functions and a dedicated voice key for hands-free operation.
In the accessories, you'll find an industry-grade power adapter, an HDMI 2.0 cable, user manuals, warranty cards, and even a WeChat red envelope with a chance to win up to 100 yuan—a nice bonus.
Under the hood, the Haimeidi Audio-Visual Robot uses a Hi3798 chip, custom-designed by Hass, paired with Harman Kardon's smart speaker technology. It also includes 2GB of RAM, dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.2, 4K decoding, and support for HDR 10 and 3D Blu-ray. During testing, it scored an impressive 12,236 points, surpassing most TV boxes on the market.
For content, it supports CIBN authorization, Tencent Video, and exclusive sports content like NBA and Champions League. Users can also install third-party apps like Sofa Butler to expand the available content, meeting a wide range of family viewing needs.
When setting up, you need to bind the device via a Tencent Cloud Micro-app account, which supports WeChat and QQ logins. Using QQ is recommended for easier video calls. The UI runs on Android 7.0, offering a smooth, intuitive experience with personalized settings and fast app launching.
The built-in Penguin Aurora app provides access to a vast library of videos, while voice control allows users to launch programs like "High-Definition Theater" simply by saying the command. It can also handle tasks like checking the weather or translating phrases using voice input.
With its integration of Tencent’s music library, the Haimeidi Audio-Visual Robot offers 17 million genuine songs across genres, including pop, classical, English, and Cantonese. Voice control lets users adjust volume and search for songs effortlessly.
Additionally, it functions as a Bluetooth and Wi-Fi speaker, offering flexibility in usage. The firmware continues to improve, enhancing voice recognition and reducing accidental triggers during playback.
Overall, the Haimeidi Audio-Visual Robot represents a major step forward in smart home entertainment, combining cutting-edge AI technology with top-tier audio and video performance. With ongoing software updates, it promises an even better user experience in the future.
