At today's event, Lei Jun unveiled three new products, including the Xiaomi Mi Notebook Pro, the Xiaomi MIX 2, and the Xiaomi Note 3. Notably, the Xiaomi MIX 2 introduced a full-screen 2.0 design, capturing attention just before Apple's iPhone 8 launch. After the conference, Lei Jun also sat down for interviews with media outlets like Phoenix Technology.
When it comes to Xiaomi’s "Full-Screen" concept, which the company pioneered, Lei Jun is clearly proud. He remarked, “Ten years ago, the iPhone redefined what a smartphone could be. Last year, the Xiaomi MIX set the direction for the future of full-screen phones.†He added that Xiaomi is gradually moving toward a design where the front of the phone is entirely screen.
Speaking of Xiaomi’s journey, it’s hard not to mention its ups and downs. However, the company delivered an impressive performance in Q2, shipping 23.16 million units. This helped Xiaomi reclaim its spot among the world's top five smartphone manufacturers. Lei Jun has set ambitious goals for this year: reaching 70 million handsets shipped and aiming for a revenue target of 100 billion yuan from the mainland and Taiwan combined.
Lei Jun also mentioned that Xiaomi expects to meet its annual shipment goal by mid-October, stating, “Reaching 100 billion yuan is definitely a small target.â€
He revealed that since last year, he has been personally involved in driving innovation and improving delivery processes at Xiaomi. One example is the Xiaomi MIX 2, which started mass production on August 1st. The company reported that inventory levels are higher than ever before, though some models may still face shortages.
This month, Xiaomi is expected to ship over 10 million smartphones for the first time. High-end flagship models will only be available at launch, a feat previously seen only by Apple and Samsung. “Apple usually stocks up five months in advance,†Lei Jun noted. “That’s the gap between domestic and international brands.â€
