In today's era, LED lighting has become a dominant force with countless applications—bulbs, panel lights, lamps, downlights, and more. Each of these products has carved out its own niche and attracted a loyal following. For companies that focus on a single product category, becoming the "champion" in that field is a long-term goal. Some have truly achieved this status, while others are still striving to become "single-product champions."
As an emerging category, LED line lights have gained popularity not only for their modern design but also for their ease of installation. They can be used across various environments, including residential spaces, offices, commercial areas, and industrial settings, creating elegant lighting effects. According to Li Xiaoxia, director of Lemei Optoelectronics Marketing, "Linear lighting is the future direction of the lighting industry and can even replace traditional office lighting."
In the past, when lighting was based on point light sources, lamp designs were limited. However, LED technology has freed up the shape of lighting fixtures, allowing for greater integration between the metal base and the light source. But as the market evolves, consumer needs become more diverse, and fixed-shaped lamps no longer meet individual preferences. This is where LED line lights come into play. Pu, CTO of Shenzhen Wannaite Technology Co., Ltd., stated, "Line lights are expected to be a key trend in office lighting over the next three years."
LED line lights take simple linear designs and use creative space segmentation to create sleek, minimalist forms and dynamic lighting effects. This highlights the beauty of linear lighting, and the future market potential looks promising.
With the growing popularity of line lights, many manufacturers have entered the market. At recent exhibitions, the Line Light Pavilion has drawn significant attention due to its personalized approach. Xue Zhenbo, general manager of Shenzhen Sanwen Optoelectronics Technology Co., Ltd., told Gaogong LED, “The line lamp market is still in its early stages. More and more companies are entering, but not all have quality products. Some just jump in for the trend.â€
Li Xiaoxia added, “Some companies expand too quickly. If one product is successful, they start a new production line. However, this often leads to quality issues. Companies need to research the market, understand customer demands, and stick to their core strengths to keep up with the market.â€
Due to the influx of many manufacturers, the variety of line lights has increased significantly. Currently, there are over 300 different styles available, but most share similar structures. About 95% of the products use an aluminum extrusion + extrusion lampshade design, which is not universal and leads to higher costs. The light transmittance is generally around 85%, with differences mainly in weight, size, and surface treatment. The remaining 5% use an aluminum extrusion + lens module structure, offering better light control and anti-glare performance, but less flexibility in customization.
Pu admitted, “In reality, we don’t need so many styles. The number of line lamp manufacturers is high, but 90% still rely on traditional product models. This leads to price wars. The other 10% are either high-end office lighting manufacturers using line lights as a supplement or small specialized manufacturers focusing on niche markets.â€
Despite the current cold market, many manufacturers remain optimistic. This is a tough test for SMEs, especially with large players like Sidon, Lemeimei, and Rishang entering the scene. How can smaller companies survive and grow under such conditions?
Xue Zhenbo suggested, “Differentiation is key. We should focus on personalized products that aren't mass-produced. Large factories may not be able to standardize them, but smaller ones might. Cost-effectiveness remains important. Our advantage lies in having a strong aluminum factory, giving us better material pricing and quality assurance.â€
Pu also noted, “Line lights aren’t unique or essential—they’re more of a personalized product. They can easily be replaced by downlights, spotlights, or track lights. To succeed, companies must focus on aspects like installation, splicing, light control, and smart systems. Online bar lights are becoming commodities, so building a strong brand is crucial.â€
