**Introduction:**
With the rise of Siri, intelligent voice assistants have become a feature that's often overlooked today. But why is it so challenging to develop such technology, and how can it truly contribute to a smarter and more convenient world?
Since the debut of Apple’s Siri in 2012, it has been difficult to say whether smart voice technology has been widely accepted by users. Over time, Siri has transitioned from being a groundbreaking “black tech†to a rarely used feature. Looking back at the evolution of intelligent voice technology, companies focused on improving voice recognition reliability have made significant efforts, but the core AI learning capabilities have remained a tough challenge to overcome.
In China’s booming internet TV market, the integration of intelligent voice technology has become a major trend. Most internet TV products now rely on voice control systems developed by HKUST. However, there are still significant differences between brands. How do Chinese internet TVs respond to user expectations for voice-activated technology? Today, we take a closer look by evaluating six smart voice systems across different internet TVs.
The six models tested in this review include: Hisense VIDAA LED55V1UCZ, Xiaomi TV 4 55-inch, Mini Whale TV 2nd Gen 55-inch, Zushi X55Q, Coolpad 55A3, and PPTV N55—all equipped with artificial intelligence voice features. We simulated real-life user scenarios, testing them on 11 common questions from multiple angles. The goal was to assess whether current voice recognition systems on smart TVs meet our daily needs.
Through practical testing, all six TVs performed well in basic tasks. Hisense stood out for its quick response and accurate identification of all 11 questions. Xiaomi and Mini Whale also showed strong performance, handling complex commands and multi-level instructions effectively. However, some models like PPTV struggled with deeper or more specific queries.
Each model had its own strengths and weaknesses. For example, Mini Whale supported multiple dialects and natural language processing, while Coolpad offered voice control via mobile apps. Despite these advancements, most systems still fall short of true AI capabilities, focusing more on gimmicks than real intelligence.
While the future of AI voice interaction looks promising, with companies like Apple, Google, and Baidu investing heavily, the technology is still in its early stages. It may not yet live up to the hype, but as more devices integrate voice control—like smart speakers, watches, and robots—it could be the next big shift in human-computer interaction.
