Big draws Apple's fourth-generation Apple TV to get patent lawsuit

Apple and Samsung, along with giants like Qualcomm, have been locked in an ongoing patent war that shows no signs of abating. Meanwhile, numerous smaller companies often file lawsuits against Apple, accusing its products of violating their intellectual property rights. Just recently, Apple's Apple TV found itself entangled in another legal dispute. CustomPlay, a Florida-based firm in the U.S., has accused Apple's fourth-generation Apple TV of infringing on its patented subtitle rewind technology. This feature allows users to use voice commands to rewind videos by 10 to 15 seconds and temporarily display subtitles during playback. Max Abecassis, the founder of CustomPlay, claimed that he had developed this concept years ago and secured a patent for it back in 1998. Attached is an image showing the Apple TV in question. Apple appears keen on integrating more voice capabilities into its Apple TV. Eddy Cue, Apple’s senior vice president of Internet Software and Services, emphasized that despite advancements in technology, the TV-watching experience remains subpar. He envisions a future where users can simply tell their devices, "Show me the Duke basketball game," and have the TV automatically display the requested content. Cue remarked, "I don't care which channel it comes from."
