Second, choosing the camera – Sony A7M2
Digital cameras come in various types: SLR cameras, mirrorless cameras, compact cameras, telephoto lenses, and home cameras. The photo quality of a compact camera no longer meets my husband’s needs. We still have a Sony TX66 at home, but it’s basically collecting dust these days. It’s not even selling well anymore!
SLR cameras are heavy and inconvenient when traveling. Plus, the price of a good SLR is quite high. That’s why we opted for a more balanced choice — a mirrorless camera. It's slightly smaller than an SLR, but offers similar image quality.
From another perspective, cameras are divided into full-frame and APS-C (half-frame). A full-frame sensor is the same size as traditional 35mm film. An APS-C sensor is about half the size. The difference lies in the size of the image sensor. Larger sensors mean higher costs, which is why full-frame cameras are more expensive. Most professional lenses are designed for full-frame. While a full-frame lens can be used on an APS-C camera, the performance won't be as good. Additionally, larger sensors provide better low-light performance and bokeh effects. All in all, it's a matter of cost and value.
So, after careful consideration, we went for the Sony A7M2 priced at 9,599 yuan!
Third, choosing the lens: FE 28mm F2
When buying a camera, there are two main factors to consider: what type of photography you do, and your budget.
Common types include landscape, portrait, street, news, and sports photography. As a beginner, I think most people have similar needs—traveling and taking photos of scenery and family.
Since we had already invested nearly 10,000 yuan on the body, we needed to keep the lens budget under 3,000 yuan. That’s why we chose the Sony A7M2 mirrorless body paired with the FE 28mm F2 lens.

The Sony FE 28mm F2 lens is compact and lightweight at just 200g, making it very portable.
The focus ring is engraved with the model name: FE 2/28 — simple and elegant.
The focus ring is made of metal, giving a nice feel, but it tends to collect dust easily. You can see that the outer casing has some wear.
Due to its small diameter, the filter thread is only 49mm, and the minimum focusing distance is 0.29 meters.
The 49mm filter thread allows for the use of other filters, such as fisheye or ultra-wide-angle lenses.
The front of the lens has a blue and light green coating, and it features 9 circular aperture blades.
The mount is made of metal and is manufactured in Thailand. It also has splash-proof protection.

The compact lens pairs well with the A7M2 and looks very coordinated!
Adding the hood makes it feel a bit top-heavy, though.

The whole body feels great in hand. It's lighter than an SLR, which is a big plus.

The anti-shake function helps reduce blurry photos. With it, you can lower the ISO for better image quality.
In conclusion, the Sony A7M2 full-frame mirrorless camera is currently my favorite, and the FE 28mm F2 lens is a high-value option in the full-frame lens lineup.
